Structural Insulated Panels for Homes
This directory provides information on structural panel companies that provide structural insulated panels for homes and businesses. Each company providing structural insulated panels (SIPs) differs from the others in the services that it provides, the materials included in the home package and sometimes in the quality of the materials provided. Some panels have undergone extensive testing, while others have not. For example, AFM R-Control panels are the only panels we know of that are UL (Underwriters Laboratories) rated.
For some companies, you may have to provide your own plans, and for others, you will have the services of the company architect and engineer. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, you can save money. If doing the entire building shell is to big a project for you, most companies will do a "dried in shell". In this case, the exterior walls and roof are erected, with windows and doors installed. You then manage the process to complete the home. There are also some companies that will provide technical assistance to a owner builder.
